Reverend Bruce "Nelson" Evans, age 79, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, March 11, 2017, at Hospice of Hope Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Kentucky.
He was born March 29, 1937, in Lewis County, Kentucky, a son of the late Leo Sidney and Sidney Arvelva Conley Evans.
Nelson was a member of the Vanceburg Church of God and previously was the pastor at Saylor Branch Church in Laural, Kentucky, for 9 ½ years . He retired from Browning Manufacturing in Maysville, Kentucky and loved going to church, visiting the nursing home, where he was a chaplin, listening to gospel music on the radio, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Evans, Alvana Evans, and Charles Allen Evans; and four sisters, Alma Hill, Olive Elliott, and twin sisters, Laomi and Naomi Evans.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Naomi Jane Cook Evans; one son; one daughter and son-in-law; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, Kentucky with Sister Dottie Stepp, Brother Dannie Overton, and Brother Eddie Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memory Gardens in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
