Charles B. McGregor, age 92, of Waco, passed away early Saturday morning, March 11, 2017 in Katy.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, with Rev. Russell Dilday officiating.

Charles was born on August 30, 1924 in Houston, the youngest of three sons to Joel and Martha (Bobbitt) McGregor. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston where he was a state debating champion with his partner, Joe Albritton in 1941.

He attended Baylor University on a scholarship before suspending his education to join the United States Army Air Corps in 1943, where he served three years as an instructor pilot. Charles returned to Baylor to finish his education and graduated 1st in his class from Baylor Law School.

He was introduced to a beautiful widow, Peggy Adams and married her six months later on June 25, 1954.

Charles was a Baylor Law School professor, President of Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, President of Security Tires and a partner with the Beard and Kultgen and the McGregor and White Law Firms. He served on numerous boards including Hillcrest Hospital and Baylor University.

Charles was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where he taught an adult Sunday School Class for over 30 years. He was a charter member of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston.

Charles was known for his incredible intellect and humor and was never at a loss for words; it was impossible to win an argument with him. He enjoyed flying his private plane, working on his property, traveling in his motor home and hunting on his deer lease in the Texas hill country.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank McGregor.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy McGregor; his children, Mike McGregor and wife Deborah, Becky Adkins and husband Lynn Williford, Jeannie Thurmond and husband Al and Ellen White and husband Greg; a brother, Joel McGregor Jr.; grandchildren, Morgan McGregor, Lindsay McGregor, Kyrbie White and husband Will, Victoria Brown and husband Nick, Gracie McGregor, Jessica Bandstra and husband Steve, Hunter Adkins, Jeff Willford and wife Abby, Samantha Adams and husband Ryan, Bonnie Greene and husband Ryan, Shelly Landry and husband Seth, Tracy DeBoer and husband Kirk, Cara Clark and husband Justin and Shelby Sheridan and husband Patrick; 17 great grandchildren including 2 named after him; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baylor University Law School Scholarship Fund, Care Net Pregnancy Center, Columbus Avenue Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
