Stanley E. Grubb, 73 of Indianapolis, who was a quiet and gentle man, entered the arms of his Maker surrounded by his family on Friday, March 3, 2017.
He was born February 8, 1944 on a farm in Buda, Illinois, the third of six children of Robert E. and Guida C. Abbott Grubb.
Stan was proud of his farm roots which instilled his lifelong love of nature, animals, math, machinery, and electricity. He graduated from Buda/Western High School where he played basketball and won numerous 4H awards. Stan was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Religion. Upon graduation, he went to work in sales at Illinois Power and was well respected for his honesty and work ethic.
Always an innovator, Stan started his own business as an independent electrical contractor, adding his offerings to include heating and air-conditioning services as well. Stan’s work was his passion, and was able to thoroughly perceive problems as opportunities, and opportunities for growth.
Even after a debilitating spinal cord injury, Stan continued at the helm of his business for more than 40 years until retirement in 2015. He was humble in regards to the impact he had on others. Some of Stan’s achievements were being elected president of the Vermilion County Electrical Commission, appointed to the Danville Civic Center Board, serving as a deacon at Ridgeview Baptist Church, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity projects, and helping with Second Church of Christ various ministries.
In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by a younger sister, Cheryl (Grubb) Dykstra.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Ann I. (Hook) Grubb; son Robert (Jennifer) Grubb; grandchildren, Stinna, Isaac, Alexis, and Austin Grubb; siblings, Donald (Arkie) Grubb, Richard (Audrey) Grubb, Dr. Steven (Lisa) Grubb, Janet (Jack) Becker, sister-in-law, Edie (Leo) Yakutis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Stan loved his family. His grandchildren were the delight of his life. Some of his favorite memories involved family reunions and opportunities to visit and socialize with them, including playing Rook, a longstanding family tradition.
In 2015 Stan made the difficult decision to leave the town he had grown to love, retire from his business, and relocate to Indianapolis. He wanted to be closer to children and his grandchildren and be an active positive influence in their lives. He also wanted to begin enjoying his hobby of woodworking and traveling.
Stan’s core value was his strong Christian faith. He was a living example of how to do the right thing in business and in life. Above all, Stan was a true gentleman and a generous friend to so many.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12 noon in Colonial Hills Baptist, of which he was a member, and where the funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Union Chapel cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Stan go to Colonial Christian School, 8140 Union Chapel Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Envelopes will be available at the church.
