Mary Frances Brown, age 86, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Tuesday morning in a Richlands, Virginia hospital after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Potter and Sally Compton Whited. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Brown in June of 1972.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Ollie) Boyd of Lebanon, Virginia, Mrs. Leonard (Hattie) Griffith, Mrs. Audrey Ward and Mrs. Adrian (Sally Irene) Breedlove all of Swords Creek and Mrs. Goldie Compton of Honaker: four sons. Dick Brown, Elbert Brown, Charlie Mack Brown and Jim Brown all of Swords Creek; one sister, Mrs. Claude (Artie) Rickman of Swords Creek; one brother, Rufus Whited of Bandy, Virginia; forty two grandchildren and thirty six great - grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Truel Brown and Rev. Kyle Brown officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
