J. M. Brown, age 81, of Swords Creek, Virginia died Thursday morning, June 22, 1972, in a Richlands, Virginia hospital after a long illness. Born at Swords Creek, he was a son of the late John N. and Mary Stilman Brown. He was a retired farmer and miner having last worked for the Swords Creek Mining Company. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary F. Brown of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Ollie Boyd of Lebanon, Virginia, Mrs. Hattie Griffith, Mrs. Audrey Ward, Mrs. Goldie Compton and Mrs. Sally Breedlove all of Swords Creek; four sons, Elbert, Edward, James and Charlie Mack Brown all of Swords Creek; one sister, Mrs. Frances Mayhew of Iaeger, West Virginia; one brother, George Brown of Swords Creek; forty three grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:00 p. m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Harley Dye and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
