Verner Mae Bowers
Mrs. Verner Mae Bowers, 94, of Hitchcock, Texas peacefully entered God’s arms on Tuesday February 28, 2017.
She was born on July 17, 1922 in Giddings, Texas to Eli and Estella Gaines.
She was married to William M. Bowers Sr. and they remained married for 57 years until his death in 1997. She was a dedicated member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years and a member of the Prince-Hall Masonic Family.
Mrs. Bowers is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William M. Bowers Sr., two sons William M. Bowers Jr. and Freddie Lee Bowers, and all of her sisters and brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Alvern Bowers and her sons, Leonard Bowers(Lillian) and Lewis Bowers (Carolyn); one sister, in law, Rosie Bowers; eight grandchildren: Ronnie Bowers, Milton Bowers (Chianti), Joel Bowers, Patrick Bowers (Khrystal), Leonard Bowers Jr. (Felicia), Dexter Bowers (Chelsea), Melanie Burnett (James) and Nakia Bowers. Verner is also survived by 23 great grandchildren: 9 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Verner will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family.
A Public Visitation will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM Followed by a Service to Celebrate Her Life at 11:00 AM. Both Services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church 6609 Fairwood Road Hitchcock, TX 77563.
Burial will follow in Grace Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock, TX.
