Thomas (Tom) Walter Miles, Jr., passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, after a three-year battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Rossman Miles; daughters, Meredith (Matthew) Pokorny and Elizabeth “Betsy” (Joshua) Rannick; two treasured grandsons, Miles and Mason Rannick; father, T. Walter Miles; brother, Howard Miles; sisters, Elizabeth Eltinge and Janet Miller.

Tom was a graduate of Florida Southern College and a 37-year resident of Morristown. He spent his working career at various industries in the area, but will be most remembered for his volunteer spirit, which is well known throughout Hamblen County. Tom has been active in several nonprofit agencies including: Stepping Out Inc., a founding member of Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition, a member of the Hamblen County Emergency Management Agency, an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police and held the office of Associate Chaplain. For the past 10 years, he has been a volunteer Civilian Chaplain with the Morristown Police Department, recently earning the rank of Master Chaplain and was awarded the outstanding Chaplain of the year award in 2013.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 9, 2017, 7:00 P.M. at Gateway Church with Rev. Adam Cooper and others officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 until time of service. Family and friends will meet at Gateway Church Friday, March 10, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. to process to Jarnagin Cemetery for an 11:00 A.M. graveside/interment service. Honors will be provided by the Morristown Police Department Honor Guard.
