June 19, 1931 ~ February 27, 2017 (age 85)

Mrs. Althea Singer Pohlmann, age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 5:15 AM. Beloved wife for 65 years to Anthony "Tony" Lawrence Pohlmann. Devoted Mother of five children Anthony "Tony" L. Pohlmann Jr., (Sharon); Alfred "Rooster" Pohlmann, (Yvette); Jeff Pohlmann, (Teri); Joelle Pohlmann Williams, (Max); and the late John Pohlmann, (JoAnn). She was the beloved daughter of the late John Baptiste Singer, Sr. and Magdalen Konen Singer. Loving sister of the late Forrest Raymond Singer, Louise Singer Chopin (Ralston) and John Baptiste Singer, Jr. Patient and Loving Grandmother of Anthony "Bubba", Tammy, Ronnie, John Jr., Jason, Jennifer, Jamie, Mandy, and Jeffrey, Jr. Step Grandmother of Roseann, John III., Gwen, Darren and Stacey. Also survived by 22 great grandchildren that she cherished and a host of nieces and nephews that were dear to her heart. Born in New Orleans, Miss Althea, "Al" was a longtime resident of Chalmette. Althea grew up in the 'uptown' area near Audubon Park. She attended St. Stephen's High School where she was an avid volleyball player. After marrying the love of her life, they later moved to St. Bernard Parish to raise their children. Althea was a devoted catholic. She attended St. Mark's Catholic Church before Hurricane Katrina disrupted her life, then she became a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. She attended every Saturday evening Mass until she was unable to leave the house. Praying 'The Rosary' was included in her daily routine for anyone in need. Althea was extremely charitable, which was a Godsend to many. She loved horses but, her favorite was 'Lady Woody'. In her younger years, you may have seen her on horseback riding through the neighborhood or on the levee. Althea's cooking skills were matched by few. Her most famous creation was crab stew, which would make any highly acclaimed chef jealous of her skills. Althea was beautiful inside and out, and her smile would light up any room or situation. She will be monumentally missed, but never forgotten. The Pohlmann family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her special caregivers, Tara Morain, Chloe Roig, Carol Walsh and Regina Beal . Relatives and friends of the family, members of Boh Bros Construction Company, St. Bernard Sheriff's Office, Parishioners of OLPS, Members of Local 1846, Employees of Valero Energy, Employees and friends of Today's Ketch Seafood are invited to attend the funeral visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette, LA on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM followed by the Mass.
