Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late William Esley and Lily Callie Ballard Rochester.
Sherman served in the United States Air Force. He was a Mason with Sam Poe Lodge #284 and a member of Forestville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school for several years. Sherman enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by a son, Steven Michael Rochester; three grandchildren, Chris and David Rochester, and Amber Rochester White; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Daniel Rochester; three sisters; and three brothers.
Burial in Forestville Baptist Church Cemetery.
