Staff Sergeant Clifton William Harrington was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SSG Harrington served our country until November 8th, 1965 in South Vietnam. He was 34 years old and was married. It was reported that Clifton died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. Clifton was born on February 12th, 1931 in Aberdeen, North Carolina. SSG Harrington is on panel 03E, line 032 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 14 years.
Cliff was a great golfer. When assigned to Vietnam, he could have served with Special Services. He said I wasn't sent to Nam to play Golf. He paid the ultimate price for doing his duty. He was the Son of William M Harrington and Clara B Harrington. He was originally interred at Evergreen Cemetery, but was moved to a crypt at Resthaven in 1986.
He served with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, "The Rock", 173rd Airborne Brigade, USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal(s) and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
