He married Lilja Maria "Lillian" Oddson 1898–1935 and they had children Donald Weston 1928-2011 and Thomas Peter. They lived in Detroit, where in 1930 Sophus worked as a paint chemist for Lagner Mfg. company.
He married Edna M. 1903–1998 after Lillian's death in 1938. In 1940 the family was still in Detroit and he continued to be a chemist.
Sophus' marker at Sunland has an empty space next to it, presumably for Edna. Whether her remains are there or not is not known.
