She was born August 4, 1932 in Adams County, Indiana a daughter of Emil Herman and Ida Jane (Lash) Baumgartner. She graduated from Adams Central High School in 1951.
On August 4, 1951 she was united in marriage to Herman J. Landis in Monroe. In 1952 they moved to Huntington County and in 1963 to their home north of Columbia City. Mr. Landis died June 28, 2009. In February 2015 Mary moved into Columbia City.
Prior to marriage, she worked at Coppess Corners in Monroe as a waitress. She began working Weatherhead Dana in 1970 and retired with nearly 25 years of service.
Her church membership was with Big Lake Church of God.
Surviving relatives include four children, Timothy A. (Kathy) Landis of Columbia City, Thomas A. (Kelly) Landis of Churubusco, Samuel H. (Julie) Landis and Ann M. (William) Evilsizer, both of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Wilford Baumgartner of Bluffton; and two sisters, Flossie Grable of Columbia City and Bernice Sipe of Portland.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Leroy Baumgartner, Harry Baumgartner, Emil "Junior" Baumgartner and Robert Baumgartner; and a sister, Vivian Singleton.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Keister Section of Scott Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
