Hilda Angueira, devoted mother & grandmother, passed on peacefully Wednesday, May23, 2012 at 89 years young.

Preceded in death by her husband Gerardo Angueira (Papa), Hilda is survived by her sisters Juanita Bonilla (94) and Luz Calero (88), her children Cookie & Sal Martingano, David & Julie Angueira, her grandchildren Jennifer& Eric Popham, Dan and Jeannie Martingano, Adam & Christin Martingano, Nicole & Chris Johnson, Danielle Angueira and four great-grandchildren, Christian, Bridget, Jaiden & Camden with 2 expected in the fall.

Born in Isabela PR Hilda was the 6th of 7 children born to Ramon & Obdulia Martinez. At the young age of 16 she was asked to stop her education and move to New York to help care for her older sister & nephew.

In December 1945, upon the return of the World War II soldiers, she married her loving husband "Jerry". To help support parents in PR & family members who had migrated to New York, she worked as a seamstress and when she started her own family she brought her parents to New York to live with her & Jerry.

Hilda's lifelong goal was to complete her education and in the mid 50's, she started her journey attending night classes in Cosmetology then opening her own Hair Salon to save for her children's education. While working & managing her salon she completed her GED moving on to Adelphi University where she realized her most significant achievement obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Social Work. Hard work & perseverance were rewarded when Hilda became a Human Resource Administrator for the NYC Social Service Dept.

Lovingly named Mamita by her grandchildren and setting examples of independence and determination, she constantly instilled & nurtured a desire and focus on the importance of education. Her thirst for knowledge will be carried on as a legacy to all her accomplishments and selfless dedication to her family.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to "Mamita's Legacy", an education scholarship fund being established for underprivileged Hispanic children.

Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Fountainhead Funeral Home, Palm Bay, where services will be held at 1:00. Entombment will follow in Fountainhead Memorial Park.
