In the gold rush day of '49, he crossed the plains to California by teams. He returned to Como and married Mary Stewart in 1855. For sixty years, Mr. Hodges lived on his farm, south of Rock Falls, which he originally entered from the government.
Mr. Hodges died Tuesday, October 23, 1917 at his home in Lyndon. The funeral was held at the house on Thursday, with interment at Riverside cemetery.
Surviving were his wife, Mary Stewart Hodges, and four children; Joseph Hodges of Lyndon, Frank Hodges of Morrison, Mrs. Thomas Stevenson of Salt Lake City and Stewart Hodges of Chicago.
