Gottfried Franke Sr. died at the home of his son Theodore last Friday at the age of 89 years, 9 month and 20 days.He was born in Meuhlhausen, Germany and immigrated to America when he was 20 years of age, first coming to Preston and a year later, in 1849 settling in New Hamburg where he has since resided. He was married to Julia Plaetzer and their union was blessed with four sons and two daughters.
One daughter Catherine, Mrs. Charles Pieper of Gretna, Man., and his wife predeceased him 18 years ago.
Surviving are Henry of Edmonton, Alberta; Ernest of New Hamburg; Julia, Mrs John Stahl of Chicago; Gottfried of Kitchener and Theodore of New Hamburg.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and at the time of death was the oldest resident of New Hamburg.
