Frances Mae Harrison of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.,formerly of El Reno, died Jan. 21, 2007, at the Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 11, 1913, in Wellston. Frances was educated in the Oklahoma City school system and graduated with honors from Oklahoma City University, where she and her husband, the late Dr. Arthur R. Harrison, were selected "Co-Outstanding Citizens." After graduation, she was appointed professor of speech at Oklahoma City University. In 1936, Frances married Arthur Reading Harrison. They moved to Washington, D.C., after their marriage, and Frances was employed on the acting staff of the National Broadcasting Company for three years.

After they moved to El Reno, Frances instructed speech, drama, debate and English at El Reno High School and later became head librarian at El Reno Community College, which later became Redlands Community College. She retired from the college position after 20 years in the teaching profession.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, the late Dr. Arthur Reading Harrison; her parents, the late Dr. and Mrs. Frantz Brandon Erwin; her sister, Lucille Kramer; and her granddaughter, Stephany.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Reese of Mabank, Texas, Sally Magruder and husband, Lloyd of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Mary Cook of El Reno; six grandchildren, Art Cotton and wife, Sandy of Blanchard, Susan Barnhart and husband, John of El Reno, Scott Cotton and wife, Michele of Humble, Texas, David Rice and wife, Jennifer of Seattle, Wash., Ashley Hance and husband, Mike of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Christine Eichholz and husband, Shannon of El Reno; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; her brother-in-law, Gilbert Kramer of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and her sister of her heart, Veda Cook of Oklahoma City.

Frances belonged to First Christian Church in El Reno and was an active member there for almost 50 years. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O. She was a charter member of Chapter D.P. in Oklahoma City and a member of Chapter A.E. in El Reno. Other organizations she belonged to were the Canadian County Retired Teachers Association, N.E.A. and O.E.A., Canadian County Historical Society Museum and the Christian Women's Fellowship.
Frances leaves a large, loving family and a host of friends in religious and educational fields to cherish her memory.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City with Mark Legg, minister of the London and Macomb Church of Christ in El Reno officiating. Services are under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials be made to either the Russell-Murray Hospice, 221 S. Bickford, El Reno, Okla. 73036, or to the charity of your choice.
