Vera M. Wise, 94, Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Pierre, SD, died December 17, 2013, at Sanford/USD Medical Center.
Vera was born July 28, 1919, in Highmore, SD, to Ralph and Alice (Weniger) Volz. Following high school, Vera married Homer H. Ruby in Lawrence Co., SD October 20, 1937. Vera later lived in Aberdeen, SD.
After moving to Rawlins, WY, she met and married Edwin "Dutch" Wise. In 1969, she moved to Sioux Falls, where she worked as a nurse's aide with Good Samaritan. Vera retired to Pierre, SD in the early 1980's, and recently moved back to Sioux Falls to be closer to her family.
In her free time, Vera enjoyed building puzzles, reading, and in younger years, enjoyed drawing. She loved polka and western music,
Vera was quiet, respectful, patient, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Cottrill, Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Clyde Ruby (Laurie), Mitchell, SD, Frank Wise (Gloria), Commerce City, CO; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Stanley (LaVae) Ruby, Sioux Falls, SD; and sister, Della Bieber, Bowdle, SD; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Stanley Ruby; daughters, Gayle Fleming, Barbara Wise; and her sister, Lona Davis.
Funeral: December 22, 2013,, at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.
Interment: December 23, 2013, at Highmore City Cemetery, Highmore, SD.
