Obituary (Legacy.com):

Jerome "Jerry" Rodney Rand, 91, of Lyndeborough, NH, died on October 1, 2009, at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, NH.

Jerome was born March 20, 1918, in Fitchburg, MA, the son of Harold Rand and Irene (Jerome) Rand.

Jerome was a self-employed businessman in Fitchburg and Townsend, MA. He operated a printing business and ran a newspaper for many years.

After growing up and living in Fitchburg, Jerome purchased a farm in Lyndeborough, NH in 1946 where he eventually made his home after retiring. With a generous heart and spirit, Jerry opened his farm to many over the years for camping, fishing, gardening, raising animals as well as for motorcycle races. Before his death, Jerry had donated many acres of the farm for conservation, so that its beauty could continue to be enjoyed after he was gone.

Jerry was an avid reader, especially enjoying his Bible, and daily newspaper. He was also a dedicated writer, who hoped to impart his life lessons, as well as to help others make a connection to God in a book he was writing and putting together up until his death.

On June 14, 2009, in a special celebration, Jerome was honored with the Boston Post Cane in the Town of Lyndeborough as the oldest citizen of that town. The event was attended by his family and many friends who loved and helped care for him.

Jerry is survived by his niece, Brenda Matson; his grandniece, Christine Catalini, and her husband, Michael; two grandnephews, David Pajari, and his wife, Brenda, and Mark Pajari, and his wife, Tyne.

He also leaves two great-grandnieces, and three great-grandnephews, all of Lunenburg, MA.

Everyone is invited to a casual outdoor Celebration of Life gathering to be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 2:00 pm at his home at 294 Pettingill Hill Road, Lyndeborough, NH.

A private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Fitchburg, MA. Donations may be made in Jerry's name to the J. A. Tarbell Library Building Fund, P O Box 54, Lyndeborough, NH 03082. The arrangements are in the care of the Nelson-Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple St., Wilton, NH.
