Miss Bertha Gearline Summer, age 84, of Buffalo, went to be with the Lord Monday, February 13, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Miss Summer was born in Union County, SC March 27, 1932, a daughter of the late Ollie Orestus Summer and Bertha Brock Summer. She was a member of True Gospel Life Church.
Surviving are a sister, Brooks S. Varner and a brother, Bobby Frank Summer both of Buffalo; a special niece, Shannon Smith of Buffalo; a special nephew, Daniel Strait of Jonesville; and other nieces and nephews, Dee Anthony, Christy Anthony, Billy Anthony, Jonathan Culp, Caitlyn Culp Horne, Dianne Anthony, and Dale Summer; great nieces and nephews, Dillon, Jayden, Faith, and Hope Smith, DJ and Emily Anthony, Kaylin and Jacob Casey, Dakota Anthony, Malachi Horne, Storm Anthony, Zachery Young, and Corey Johnson; a number of great-great nieces and nephews and her beloved pet dog, Brownie. Miss Summer was predeceased by three sisters: Roberta Summer, Margie Summer and Beth Summer-Strait, two brothers: Forest Earl Summer and Charles O. Summer and a predeceased nephew, Steve Summer.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in the Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The following nephews will serve as active pallbearers: Dillon Smith, DJ Anthony, Dee Anthony, Chris Casey, Robert Strait, Jacob Casey, J.R. Belue and Dale Summer.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 Saturday at the chapel prior to the service.
The family is at the home of her sister, Brooks Varner, 176 Summer Valley Road, Buffalo.
