Mr. Douglas Wilburn Arnold, Sr., age 98, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Peacock officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cottonwood City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to services at Glover Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Arnold was born on July 11, 1918 in Houston County, the son of Otho Roy and Estie Halstead Arnold.

He was married to Willie Mae Terry Arnold for 71 years.

Mr. Arnold graduated from Dothan High School.

He was a retired Major in the U. S. Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Division.

Mr. Arnold also retired from the State of Alabama Department of Health.

He enjoyed fishing and reading, and was a member of Hodgesville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Larry Lynn; a brother and sister-in-law Milton and Daphne Arnold; In-laws Glen & Evelyn Goff, Mickey and Annie Martin, Alma Terry, Houston Terry and John Terry.

Survivors include: his wife of 71 years Willie Arnold; 2 daughter’s Angela Lynn(Larry); Deborah Bryant (Stanley); son Douglas W. Arnold, Jr. (Deloris); Grandchildren: Michelle Lynn Sturm, Melissa Cripps, Dustin Cripps, Casey Bryant, Carey Bryant, and Amy Arnold Stewart; Great-grandchildren: Matthew Scott Sturm, Silas Cherry and Stone Stewart; Nephew: Roy Arnold and Niece: Pam Windham. Special caregivers and extended family are Betty Johnson and Nikki Johnson.
