A Celebration of Life service for Master Sergeant Roy James Garner, USAFSS, RET, 86, of Longview will be held Monday, February, 13, 2017, at 1:00 Ester Louise Scharff.M. in the Garden Court of Welch Funeral Home with Chaplain Wayne Norvell officiating. The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home on Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery. Mr. Garner passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Garner was born July 21, 1930, in Longview to Walter L. and Ester Louise Scharff Garner. He was a Baptist and a graduate of Judson High School. Mr. Garner was resident of Longview since 1969 coming from San Angelo, Texas and after serving overseas. He went to Lackland Air Force Base for basic training before being stationed overseas, beginning in Japan, He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict and Viet Nam and served his country for 20 years in the Security Service, retiring as a master sergeant. Mr. Garner worked at Brown and Root for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Roy Turner Garner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Ann Garner; son and daughter-in-law, Monnie Lee and Ramona Garner all of Longview; grandchildren, Joseph Garner; Kristopher Garner and wife, Jill all of Longview; April Gordon of Gladewater; sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Robert Bullard of Longview; sister, Linda Meyers of Kilgore; great-grandchildren, Dakota Gordon, Cobeona Gordon, Malachi Gordon, Lily Garner, and Jace Garner.
