William J. Maurer, 80, of Dornsife and formerly of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Wednesday Feb. 8, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Mount Carmel, a son of the late Jasper and Ada (Wolfe) Maurer. He was raised by his late grandparents, Jacob and Jenny Maurer. Bill was married on June 4, 1955, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Red Cross to the former Shirley L. Bucher who survives.
He was a 1954 graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School.
Bill was a manager of bus operations for Colonial Foundation, Williamsburg. Later moving back to the area, he drove bus for Klinger Bus Company. He always had a love for children and driving bus.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church Red Cross, where he served on church council and taught Sunday School. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and games.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Craig Maurer, of Virginia and Chris Maurer, of Georgia; one daughter, Fran Morrison, of Texas; five grandchildren, Joshua Maurer, Adam Maurer, Christopher Maurer, Lance Maurer and Aaron Lipetina; seven great-grandchildren, Conner Maurer, Kendall Maurer, Logan Maurer, Zoey Maurer, Harper Maurer, Austin Lipetina and Kylie Lipetina; and one step-sister, Shirley Zimmerman, of Florida. Also surviving are notable family members, Rodney and Jean Deppen and Rick and Donna Houser.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Red Cross, followed by a memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Will Cole officiating.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William's memory to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 235 Schwaben Creek Road, Dornsife, PA 17823
Funeral arrangements are by the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton.
