US Marine PFC Donald Edward Fletcher, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Mt Airy, North Carolina.

US Marine Private First Class Donald Edward Fletcher was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Fletcher served our country until July 26th, 1969 on Nui Mat Rang Hill 845 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Donald died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Fletcher is on panel 20W, line 052 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

We worked together at Ray's before we went into the service. We used to call each other Sid, can't remember why now but then it seemed funny.

He was the Son of Mr Benton J. and Mrs Rebecca Venable Fletcher of Mount Airy, NC.

He served with the 3rd Platoon, Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
