ARCHIE ARTHUR, 86, retired laborer
Archie Clifford Arthur, 86, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1995, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born April 3, 1909, in Charters, Ky., a son of the late Henry and Sarah Prather Arthur, he was a retired laborer of LTV Steel Corporation of Cleveland with 23 years of service, a World War II Army Purple Heart recipient, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of United Steelworkers of America Local of Cleveland.
Surviving is his wife, Bette L. Shively Arthur, whom he married July 25, 1945, in Ironton.
He also was preceded in death by his stepmother, Clarinda Ruark Arthur; five brothers, Hubert, Earl, Donald, Amos and Ralph Arthur; a sister, Gladys Arthur; two stepbrothers, Russell and Floyd Ruark; and a stepsister, Marie Stamper.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with the Rev. Danny Sowards officiating, and interment in McKendree Cemetery, with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post American Legion.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
