“Evie”

September 22, 1955 / February 6, 2017

On February 6, Evie was taken to heaven to sit at the right hand of God after a long fight with ALS disease.

Evie was born in Montgomery, AL on September 22, 1955 to the family of Vick and Maria Fivgas. She graduated from Robert E. Lee high school and moved to Atlanta to study interior design at Bauder College. She graduated with honors.

She moved to Gulf Breeze, FL where she went to work for Elebash’s Jewelry Co. as a sales representative. She climbed the ladder quickly to become the Head Marketing Buyer. She retired after over 40 years of service.

Evie was an outstanding seamstress. She smocked baptismal gowns and helped sew the dresses for the Hara dance group. Many of the dresses that she wore were made by her. She enjoyed painting scenes from the Pensacola area and countryside landscapes. Evie was also an accomplished cook with desserts being her favorite.

She was very involved in the Greek Orthodox Church as a secretary of the parish council. She taught the Hara dance group and Sunday school for many years. She was the treasurer of the women’s Philoptochos Society. In 2015, she was recognized and honored with the Archangel Michael Award.

Evie was happily married to Chester Dampier for 33 years, raising two children Christopher G. Dampier and Maria J. Dampier. She was admired for her love of children and enjoyed meeting new people. She often gained the admiration and friendship of others with her many talents and kindness.

She loved visiting the Appalachian Mountains around Helen and Big Canoe, GA. On these visits she frequented antique shops and gift stores. One of her favorite places was the Biltmore Estates in Ashville, NC.

Evie was preceded in death by her father Vick Fivgas and her brother George Fivgas. She is survived by her husband Chester Dampier, son Christopher Dampier, daughter Maria Dampier, grandson Brayden Verhoest, mother Maria Fivgas, brother John Fivgas, sister Panayota Whisler, brother-in-law Joe Whisler and nephews Yianni and Zachary Whisler, and God Daughter Evie Mackey.
