She was the fourth daughter of Rev. Eugene and Jennie Horn Holmes who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty five years, Lowell E. "Gillie" Gillespie; her five sisters; Alla Gene Williams, Helen Penick, Kathryn Roberts, Mary Beth Curtis and Roberta Hurt as well as many special relatives.
Janette is survived by her daughter, Janan Gillespie Hale (Bill) of Tyler and son, Gary Earnest Gillespie (Becky) of Hartford, Ala.; six grandchildren, Kevan Sue Bauer, Jeffrey Scott Hale, William Lowell Hale, Mark Douglas Hale, Brandy Ann Fitzgerald and Lindsey Rene Beall; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
She lived independently until 2011 when at the age of 101, she moved to Oakbrook Care Center in Whitehouse, Texas.
Janette was a graduate of Texas Christian University and used her business degree at work much of her life, retiring from Bealls General Office after many years, when she was needed to be at home to care for her husband prior to his death in 1989. She was an active member of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends throughout her life. She had a positive, cheerful, attitude; never complained and loved her family. In 2016, she was included in The Genetics of Longevity Study of Boston University Medical Center.
There will be a graveside service at Jacksonville City Cemetery February 9, 2017.
