"John T. Soller Dies Suddenly Saturday Night"
John T. Soller, dean of Lafayette undertakers, died very suddenly at 9:40pm Saturday night at his home, 501 South Third Street. Death was due to an acute heart attack.
The news of the demise of this popular citizen spread over the city rapidly and brought sorrow to many homes.
Mr. Soller was a native of Lafayette and his entire life was spent here. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Soller and was born July 14, 1864. His father was one of the organizers of the Cabinet Makers union, funiture builders and undertakers, and as a boy John T. Soller learned the cabinet business under his father. He was an expert in his line and assisted in building and placing all of the walnut cases and furnishings in the present county court house.
He was a Democrat...served as councilman 2 terms in 2nd ward....President of Police Board...as a young man he was a member of the old Lafayette Brass band.
In 1893 (2?) Mr. Soller was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kuegler (Kugler) who with two sons, Elmer and Edwin and a granddaughter, Beverly Jane, survives. He is also survived by a sister, Miss. Emma Soller, (1866-1948), of Lafayette.
Mr. Soller was a member of Salem Reformed church, Lafayette, Lodge No. 143, Elks; Lafayette Lodge No. 55, Odd Fellows and the Druids.
