Verna Lee Weaver Phillips, 88, of Oxford, died Monday, February 6, 2017. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Weaver and Ella Lee Horner Weaver. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Darrell William Phillips, daughter, Deborah Jane Shotwell, brother, Samuel Weaver, and grandson, Andy Gillis. She was the owner and operator of Phillips Grocery. Mrs. Phillips was a member of North Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, George Phillips, Jr. of the home; two children: Wilma P. Gillis (Urel) and Donnie Phillips (Dulcie), all of Roxboro; two siblings: Curley Weaver of Burlington and Lottie Paschall of Durham; six grandchildren: Phillip Merritt Gillis, David Urel Gillis, Daniel Wayne Phillips, Dustin Arthur Phillips, Darrell Allen Shotwell, and Sarah Michelle Shotwell; two great-grandchildren: Darby Ella Gillis and Jack Bruington Gillis.

Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the North Fork Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Merritt Gillis, David Urel Gillis, Daniel Wayne Phillips, Dustin Arthur Phillips, Darrell Allen Shotwell, Fred L. Paschall, and Jay F. Paschall.
