Sarah Catherine Hommon (referred to as "Catherine," and more often "Kate"), was born in Blair Co., Pennsylvania (near Altoona where her father Jacob Hommon was born). Her older sister Agnes was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Kate & her parents also lived in Knox County, Illinois near Rio or Henderson between the 1840's & 50's.

Kate was married to Owen M. Owens on Dec. 30, 1869 in Henderson, Knox County, Illinois.

According to family records, Kate and Owen had seven children:

*Jennie May (Owens) Ayer (1870-1937).
*Nellie Agnes (Owens) Dubbs (1873-1930).
*Arthur "Art" David Owens (b.1875-d.unk.)(lived in San Francisco, CA. in 1930).
*Clark Owens (1878-1961)(lived in Oakland, CA. in 1930).
*Grace Beatrice (Owens) Streib (1880-1966). Lived in Calgary, Canada in 1930.
*Orville Maynard Owens (b.1883-d.unk.)
*Earl Leroy Owens (1888-1965) (lived in Vallejo, CA. in 1930).

For more information on these children, see Owen M. Owens Find A Grave memorial.

It is known that Kate & Owen lived in Rio, Knox County, Illinois in 1873 when Nellie was born, and that within four to five years they moved to Iowa (around 1878) near Des Moines (possibly at Dexter, Iowa or Prairie City, Iowa). In late 1887 or early 1888 they moved to the Santa Cruz, California area. It is believed that they lived the remainder of their years there.

Kate's parents were Jacob & Sarah (Regan) Hommon & they also moved to the Santa Cruz area at some point. Both of Kate's parents are buried in the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kate had at least three siblings:

*Mary B. (Hommon) Blackburn (1840-1938). Buried in Iowa.

*Hannah Sabina "Sibbie" (Hommon) Dubbs (1842-1922) Buried in the Ransom, KS. Cemetery.

*Agnes M. (Hommon) Adams (1846-1933) Buried in Santa Cruz Memorial Cemetery, Santa Cruz, CA.).

Keep in mind that Kate's date of birth, date of death & marriage date could all be questionable. All of these dates were taken off of the back of photographs where the writing was nearly illegible. None of these dates have ever been confirmed with any other sources, however, the dates on the pictures all coincide with dates of birth and marriage near the time that her sisters were born & married. NOTE: In 2020, other independent family records corroborated all of the dates listed above.

The location of Kate and Owen's graves is unknown, but they are believed to be buried in the Santa Cruz, California area.
