Early Life: Dan was born August 10, 1945, in Richfield, Utah, the youngest son of Asahel Neil and Reva Hunt Nelson. In 1963, he graduated from high school in Richfield, Utah, and served in the Utah Army National Guard.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Dan served a mission in the Southern Far East Mission from 1965 to 1967. He married Peggy Marie Hunt on December 27, 1969, in Manti, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Teri Ann Rueckert on March 25, 1994, in Provo, Utah. Following his mission, Dan attended Southern Utah University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in June 1971. He then attended the University of Utah, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in June 1973. He worked as an engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation from 1969 to 2000, retiring after 31 years. He continued working as an engineering consultant for Mountainland Association of Governments and Civil Science Engineering. Dan Fredrick Nelson passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 5, 2017, after a sudden illness. He was 71.
Survived By: His wife, Teri; children: Dan A. Nelson (Isa), Holly M. Williams (Drew), Heather S. Fackrell (Daniel), David A. Nelson (Shannon), Valerie N. Nelson and Austin S. Nelson; stepchildren: Travis B. Freestone (Nikole), Ashlee F. Herring (Shawn), and Jenni Freestone; a brother, Ted Nelson (Mary); six grandchildren with one on the way; and three step-grandchildren; parents-in-law, H. Sperry and Anna Rae Hansen Rueckert.
Preceded In Death By: His parents, Asahel N. and Reva Hunt Nelson; a sister, Shirley Ann Sullivan; and a brother, Elmo Christian Nelson.
