Died January 15, 2007. He was born February 6, 1933 in Washington, DC to Harry and Evelyn Kober. Pat attended local DC schools and graduated from Anacostia High School. He was a graduate of the George Washington University with a BS Degree and a Masters Degree in International Affairs. He was a key player on the University's football team and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Capt. Kober was an attack pilot who served in squadrons VA-72, VA-174, VA-15 and VA-81. He was the commanding officer of Attack Squadron FIFTEEN, Carrier Air Wing THREE, the Commodore of Light Attack Wing ONE and the commanding officer of USS Coronado (AGF-11). Capt. Kober was also the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-4l) in 1984-85 based out of Yokosuka, Japan.
His personal aviation milestones included 1106 carrier arrested landings, over 200 combat missions, 2600 flight hours in A7 aircraft and over 5600 hours of jet flight time in 14 different types of fighter and attack aircarft.
Over his career, Capt. Kober was awarded many medals and other decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Cross Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, eighteen Strike Flight and two individual Air Medals, three Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Unit Commendation Medals, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, Navy "E" with 4 "E's" and the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars.
Capt. Kober was a resident of Amelia Island, Florida for the last 14 years. He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Rochelle Vann Kober; daughters, Dana Kober-Manny, Lutz, FL, Karen Fincher (Brent), Charlotte, NC, Christa Ray (Michael), Plymouth, MN, Pamela Wehde (Chuck), Jacksonville, FL and Paula McCormick (Michael), Birmingham, AL. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ciara Manny, Austin and Alexander Fincher, Gabrielle and Alexa Ray, Bryce Wehde and Abigail McCormick.
