In 1945, he joined the Merchant Marines and served approximately two and a half years. He came to San Angelo in 1950 and worked as a refrigeration mechanic at Central Electric Company. In 1953, he started Angelo Refrigeration and Restaurant Supply with his twin brother, Wallace. Walmar and his brothers, Wallace and James, operated the business for many years. After 40 successful years of business, Walmar retired in 1992. Upon retirement, he enjoyed raising exotic wildlife, attending wildlife sales and meetings. Among the items on his bucket list was to go to Africa to see the wildlife, which he and Sharon achieved in 2001. Included in his travels were trips to Australia, New Zealand, several times to Europe, Canada, Alaska, and many locations in the United States, as well as mission trips to Central America. On October 9, 1953, Walmar was married to Georgia (Wilkens) Hohmann until her death in 1997. Their children are Sherri Hohmann Brown and her husband, Rodney Brown, of San Angelo; Dr. Linda Hohmann of San Angelo, and Janna Hohmann Ratliff and her husband, Michael Ratliff, of Colorado City, Texas. Walmar married Sharon (Chlapek) Hohmann on March 18, 1999, and added a son, Mark Waggoner. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Travis and his wife Alexis, Jacob and his wife Bess, Christopher, Lauren, and Micaela Brown, Chase and his wife Kylie Ratliff, and Cole Ratliff; four great grandchildren, Ingrid and Asher Brown, and Audrey and Abby Ratliff. Walmar was preceded in death by his wife Georgia, his parents, and his siblings, Doris Inman, William, James, Wallace, and Dayton Hohmann. Pallbearers will be Michael, Chase, and Cole Ratliff, Rodney, Travis, Jacob, and Christopher Brown, and Wally Hohmann. Honorary pallbearers are East Angelo Lions Club Members, Steve Hohmann, Darrell Hohmann, Roy Martin, and Jerry Mullenix. Walmar was an active, 50 year member of the East Angelo Lions Club, serving in many capacities. He enjoyed working at the local Pancake Breakfasts and the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. He enjoyed riding in parades with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Posse. He volunteered in 4-H, CASA, and other organizations. In recent times, he and Sharon enjoyed eating out at breakfast at Kenny Blanek's Village Café and the Dunbar Restaurant, where his favorite waitresses served him hot chocolate. Walmar was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Wall Brethren Church. Walmar was a loving and caring husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
