Francis "Bud" Perkins passed away Thursday, January 18, 2007, at age 81. He was born June 5, 1925, in Binghamton, New York, the second of two children. His parents were Gerald and Genevieve Perkins. He served in the Army in the Corps of Engineers and was in France immediately following D-Day. He attended college following his discharge and married Alena Towner soon thereafter. They had five children, Kathy, Brenda, Paul, Mary and Scott. The family remembers happy times fishing and camping together. In 1950, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked at Greyhound Bus Lines. His wife preceded him in death in 1981. He then married Martha Jane Smith in January 1982. After his retirement, the couple moved to Wasilla, Alaska, where he enjoyed gardening and woodworking, spending many hours in his workshop. The couple traveled extensively in their motorhomes throughout the US and Canada. He is survived by his wife Martha and children, Kathy (Bob) Krejci, Brenda Collman, Paul Perkins, Mary (Mike) Richard and Scott (Anne) Perkins. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Ann (Dave) Reeves, Lee Smith and Myra Smith. He has 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A military graveside interment service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, WA on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at 11:00AM. The family wishes to give many thanks to the caregivers at Brookdale Clare Bridge of Puyallup for the wonderful care they gave over the past several years and to the nurses at Linden Grove of Puyallup for the care given following his last hospitalization until his death. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
