Julia Ann "Julie" Thenhaus, 75, of Spencer, NE, passed away suddenly on November 4, 2016 at Niobrara Valley Hospital, Lynch, NE.

A public visitation to celebrate Julie’s wonderful life will be held from 4:00 – 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 9th at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer, NE. A private family memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 10th.

Julie was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 5th, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Helen Pottenger. She cherished her family and loved to tell stories of her many adventures with her parents and siblings, including hunting, fishing, camping and general hijinks. She graduated from Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, PA and continued on to receive a Biology degree from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA.

On January 30th, 1965 in Leetsdale, PA, Julie married the love of her life, William H. (Bill) Thenhaus, and they were together for 51 glorious years. Julie worked as a Biology teacher early in her career and once Bill finished his mortuary science degree, and subsequent service in the military, she chose to support Bill in his business and raise their 2 children. They have called Spencer, NE their home for over 40 of those years together. Julie loved her family and traveling, so in retirement, she and Bill spent a number of years sightseeing across the US in their RV, always including stops to visit her children, grandchildren, siblings and other family and friends across the country.

Family and friends were always Julie’s passion and delight. She was very active in her community and enjoyed participating in many clubs and game groups. Julie was an avid crafter, including sewing, knitting and crocheting, among others, and her many friends and extended family members have numerous hand crafted treasures to remember her by. Julie was especially talented in cake decorating and lovingly created celebration deserts for many years in the community. She also enjoyed technology; she was an early adopter of home computing and programming and after the introduction of the internet, enjoyed creating and maintaining many websites. Julie rekindled her love of reading over the last few years and was also actively involved in supporting the Spencer Community Library.

Julie is survived by her loving husband, Bill Thenhaus; her daughter Mary Gore, husband Tom Gore, grandchildren Austin and Zachary Gore of Brooklyn Park, MN; her son Jon Thenhaus, wife Enola Thenhaus, grandchildren Alexander and Atilla Thenhaus of Taichung City, Taiwan; her sister Carla Eichman of Clarksburg, PA, her brothers Charles Pottenger of Lewiston, ID and Walter Pottenger of Erie, IL and their families including many nieces and nephews; and many other treasured family and friends.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Helen Pottenger.

The family wishes to thank and bless all of those who have loved and cherished Julie in her lifetime.
