Joseph was born in Prussia/Poland, son of Mathias Krzeszewski and Marianna Andrzejewska, in 1851. He emigrated to the U.S. with his mother and siblings in 1873, and settled in Dwight Twp. in about 1876. He farmed in Dwight, and later in Lincoln Township, for the rest of his life. He also held several township offices over the years, including highway commissioner for three terms, treasurer for two terms, and Justice of the peace. Joseph and his brothers adopted the surname "Miller," to avoid the difficulty that non-Polish speaking people had with "Krzeszewski." Joseph married Magdalene "Maggie" Budny in 1881. They had 12 children born between 1882-1902, of which 11 survived to adulthood. Joseph died at his home in Kinde, on 1 Feb 1934, and according to his death certificate, he was buried at St. Michael Cemetery on 5 Feb 1934.
