Isabelle Rickman Chapman, 90, of Roanoke, passed peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, February 16, 2013. Isabelle was born August 14, 1922, in Saltville, a daughter of the late Isaac King and Ella Austin McElraff Rickman. She was a devoted Christian, who faithfully read her Bible and prayed every morning. She was a member of Roanoke Congregational Holiness Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chapman; two sons, William (Bill) E. Chapman Sr. and Tony V. Chapman; four brothers; three sisters; three grandsons; one great-grandson.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth C. Underwood, of Vinton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe M. Chapman Sr. (Yulanda), Danny L. Chapman, and Albert K. Chapman, Sr. (Terry), all of Roanoke, two daughters-in-law, Mary Chapman, of Salem, Sandra Chapman, of Roanoke; one brother, John Henry Rickman, of Saltville; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services conducted by Lotz Roanoke, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 19, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.
