SALTVILLE, Va. John Henry Rickman Sr., age 86, a devout Christian and devoted family man, was reunited with his beloved Mildred on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. He was born in Washington County, Va., and was the last surviving child of the late Isaac and Ella Rickman and lived his whole life in Saltville. He married the late Mildred Pauley Rickman in 1950 and spent the next 52 years creating a home and raising a family with her until her death in 2002. Mr. Rickman was a hard worker who spent many years in home construction in the Abingdon area. He attended the First Church of God Allison Gap for many years. He was also a charter member of the Allison Gap Ruritan Club. Mr. Rickman was always hard working, positive, and witty and always offered his family unconditional love, constantly putting them first before his own needs. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leotha Rickman Woods; and a son, Eddie Rickman. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Nyoka, and husband ,J.C. Taylor, Tannersville, Va.; son, Johnny, and wife, Diane Rickman, Tannersville; son, Curtis, and wife, Janie Rickman, Hudson, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Bud Frye. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Howard and the Rev. Donnie Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Falls Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Henderson Funeral Home or may visit at the family home any time. Pallbearers will be Allen Rickman, Kody Eastridge, Derek Rickman, Alan Brinson, Scott Booth and Charles "Bud" Frye. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Church of God Allison Gap. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southwest Virginia.
