Varnville, SC – Entered into rest Thursday, January 26, 2017, Mrs. Yvonne Evelyn Green, age 94.

Mrs. Green was born in Paris, France in 1922 and attended school in England. She lived in Augusta since 1965 and moved in with her daughter in 2004. They moved to Varnville, SC in 2014.

She journaled her accounts through World War, II and after the war she worked at the British Embassy. Mrs. Green met her first husband, Albert Pennington at a joint party between British and American Embassies. She married Albert, moved to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. Albert wrote her many poems. His military career resulted in much traveling for them until his retirement in 1965. They had two children Patricia Hayes (Dennis Hayes) and Michelle Pennington (Wayne Whitten). Mr. Pennington passed away in 1972.

Mrs. Green worked at Fort Gordon as a military pay clerk; she retired in 1985 after 19 years of service. Her co-workers there gave her the nick-name “Boom-Boom”. She received many letters of appreciation and certificates of commendation for special services and exceptional performance. In Martinez, she was a member of the French Club for many years and also made many lasting friendships.

She married Mr. Henry “Hank” Green, they were members of the Good Sam Club and formed many lasting friendships. Mrs. Green loved playing cards. She never met a stranger and everyone loved her. She loved giving and receiving hugs and kisses.

A graveside service was held Friday, February 3, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens; a memorial service followed at Riverview United Methodist Church, 12:00 Noon with Rev. Mark T. Maund officiating. .
