William Allen Stovall, age 84, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was born to the late James Newton Stovall, Sr. and Bina Josephine Norris Stovall on July 9, 1932, in Washington County, Va. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He served as a fireman for Norfolk and Western Railway for eight years. Mr. Stovall was a retired Teamster working for 34 years in the trucking industry 14 of which were with Yellow Freight Lines and he spent 20 years with Mason Dixon Trucking. Mr. Stovall continued to serve his community through his membership in the American Legion Post 12 of Abingdon and the Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. of Bristol, Tenn. He was of the Presbyterian faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stovall was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Stovall and James Newton Stovall, Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Ann Stovall Sheppard and Ruby Stovall Clark. He is survived by his son, David Allen Stovall and wife, Debra of Glade Spring, Va.; daughter, Deborah Sue Stovall Johnston and husband, Ronnie of Saltville, Va.; brother, Howard Stovall and wife, Judy of Glade Spring, Va.; two sisters, Helen Lane of Great Bridge, Va. and Mildred "Suzy" Martin of Meadowview, Va.; four grandchildren, Daniel Marshall, Ben Marshall, Josh Stovall, and Zach Stovall and wife, Courtney; four great grandchildren, Nate Stovall, Laci Stovall, Oliver Marshall, and Neelee Stovall; his special friend and housekeeper, Eva Doss; and many additional special friends. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Timothy Bird, of Old Glade Presbyterian Church, and Pastor Jeff Wallace, of the Church of New Beginnings, officiating. A committal service will follow at the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Highland's Veterans Honor Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be William Doss, William Rosenbaum, John Martin, and Ted Lester. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Friends and family are welcome anytime at David Stovall's home and Deborah Johnston's home.
