Betty J. Patz, age 87, of 400 East Lakeshore Drive, Manistique, Michigan died January 27, 2017 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI.
She was born March 21, 1929 in Manistique the daughter of William and Ferzena (Brockman) McCarney and was raised in Engadine, MI.
On September 25, 1948 the former Betty J. McCarney married Arnold R. Patz in Manistique. They made their home and raised their children here. Arnold preceded her in death on October 16, 1984.
Betty was employed in the kitchen at the Manistique area schools for 21 years. She retired as head cook.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and taking a trip to the casino.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Bill) Conine of Escanaba; daughter-in-law, Georgia Patz of Walterboro, SC; grandchildren, Ryan (Nichole) Patz, Georgette (Rob) Paxton, Kelsey (Andrew) Smaijda, and David (Emily) Conine; great grandchildren, Ella, Lily and Carson; sister, Carol Neeson of Manistique; the McLear girl nieces who she was very close to; along with additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Allen Patz in 2009; a baby at birth; sisters, Opal McLear and Mildred McCarney; and her brothers, Leonard, Willard, Robert, James, and Norman McCarney.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm, at the funeral home with Reverend Janice Reed officiating.
