Vernon was born May 8, 1928, at Winchester, to Harry and Jessie (Massey) Kennedy. The family soon moved to Stites, where he grew up and graduated from high school. At age 12 he lost his left thumb, but this didn't slow him down much. During his high school years while playing basketball, he gained the nickname "Crow," which stayed with him his lifetime.

After high school, life took him on many paths - cat skidder, crane operator, bartender, car salesman and logger for many years before he became a mill worker. He retired after 25 years of service as a white hat for Clearwater Forest Inc., being Bob Krogh's right-hand man.

He grew up attending the first established Church of God in Idaho at Stites, where his mother was a founding member. Later he became a deacon and member of the advisory board. The Stites Church of God is now Gospel Lighthouse Church, and he was still an active member.

He was very busy before and after retirement with many interests - Ram Booster Club president, school board member, prison ministry, Gideon member, Civil Air Patrol, Lions Club, bowling, gardening and he loved to fly fish and hunt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; parents Harry and Jessie Kennedy; and sisters Doris Pate and Grace Robeson.

Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Life Center, 4432 Highway 12, Kamiah. A covered-dish dinner will follow the service at Gospel Lighthouse Church in Stites. Private interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Kooskia.
