The death is reported from Hawkesville of an old resident of that place, Harriet Ellen Ballard, widow of the late Joshua Winn. Deceased was born in Hampshire, England, and came to this country with her parents when she was but an infant. Her parents settled at Uxbridge, where they lived for about 16 years. They then moved to Wellesley into what was then called the "Queen's Bush". In 1855 she was married to Joshua Winn, who died about 1883. They settled down on a farm adjoining the village where deceased lived until her husband died, and thereafter until she moved with her son's family to the village a number of years ago. There were 7 children born to them, of whom 6 survive, namely: Laura (Mrs. Hamilton), Strasburg; Gustavus, Jacob, and Mary (Mrs. John Mitchell) in California; Edmund in Hawkesville; and Annie (Mrs. Alex. Wallace) near Preston. Three brothers and three sisters also survive her. Deceased was a good neighbor and a kind mother and enjoyed the respect of all who made her acquaintance. She reached the age of 79 years 9 months and 5 days.
