Ruth (Curtis) Scherer, 90, of Mt. Vernon, IN, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Terrace at Solarbron. She was born in Posey County, IN on November 1, 1926, to the late Mack and Mary (Ludlow) Curtis.
Ruth was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana. She was a past Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as an active member of First United Methodist Church, Tri-Kappa, and the Mt. Vernon Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles F. Scherer, Sr. in 2012; son-in-law, James Johnston; and brother, Manuel L. Curtis.
She is survived by her son, Charles F. (Bonnie Jean) Scherer, Jr. of Palmer, AK; daughter, Evelyn Johnston of Evansville, IN; granddaughters, Sarah (Keith) Kirkland, Emily (Jared) West, and Julie (Matt) Burgher; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hailey, Ashley and Libby Kirkland, Jaxon West, and Ellie Burgher; sister, Mary Ina Ackman of Mt. Prospect, IL; and sister-in-law, Geraldine (Scherer) Oeth of Evansville, IN.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 601 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN, with Reverends' Mitch Gieselman and Chris Millay officiating and burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
