Sheba and Jacob with their small children, joined the Edward B. Sizemore carvan to what is now called Wyoming County in 1835 and settled on the Sizemore branch of Bearhole.
They traveled with her brother George, too.
A farmer, shrewdtrader and businessman, Jacob acquired several tracts of land.
SHEBA died 1853 West Virginia, at 38 years of age.
In December 1853, Sheba disappeared.
A search party led by John Logan Cook, JP., found her battered and bruised body buried in a shallow grave on Byrd Mountain.
Indicted for the murder, Jacob was tried twice in Wyoming County and convicted on manslaughter charges.
Evermont Ward, his attorney secured a change of venue to Mercer County, where he was tried for the third time and aquitted.
Jacob was free, but his life was far from satisfactory.
His friends and children deserted him, his neighbors had no respect for him and avoided him at all costs.
Expenses of his trials and lawyers fees consumed all his property.
He spent the last years of his life at the County Poor Farm.
