Charles was a WWII, U.S. Navy veteran. He graduated from Birmingham Southern and worked in Human Resources, retiring from State Farm, Coca-Cola and the FDOT. A gifted singer with a deep booming voice, Charles performed onstage across the country and as a member of the First United Methodist Church at Ormond Beach, he would lead the congregation each year into hymnal history with his "Camp Meeting" month on Halifax. Surviving are his wife (married 1958); children, and 7 grandchildren. A service will be held April 3, 2012 at Haigh-Black Funeral Home in Ormond Beach.
