PERRYTON – LaWanda Jo (Garms) Ramsey of Perryton, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, in Amarillo, Texas, at the Ware Living Center where she had made her home the past two years. Her funeral services will be conducted at Community Worship Center of Perryton on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. by Pastor Tim Ramsey and the Rev. Wes Stevens of Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Ochiltree Cemetery.
LaWanda was born on Oct. 17, 1934, in Edmonson, Texas, to E.A. and Edna Lee (Morrow) Garms. She attended Plainview High School where she was on the girls softball team. She married Bobby Jerrell Ramsey on May 13, 1954, in Clovis, N.M., and started her life as a wife and mom. The family resided in Plainview, Texas, until 1968, when they moved to the Perryton area. She considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown and then became officer in charge at the Waka, Texas, rural post office for five years. She worked as a clerk for CR Anthony's and Beall's department store in Perryton before working for Perryton ISD as a lunchroom lady several years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters, her husband, Bobby, in 2011, and two grandsons, Jason Alan Ramsey and Caleb Jerrell Ramsey.
She is survived by her children, Mike Ramsey and Lorri Jackson of Pampa, Texas, Traci (Claude) Aylor of Amarillo, Texas, Tim (Margie) Ramsey and Karri (Mel) Haberthur of Perryton, Texas, Kyle (Stacy) Ramsey of Paris, Texas, Juli (Ken) Lowman of Borger, Texas, and Cory (Kendra) Ramsey of Amarillo, Texas, She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, her brother Raymond Garms of Lubbock, Texas, and her sister Pat (Ben) Thompson of Plainview, Texas, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Gideons International or to a benefit fund for LaWanda Ramsey C/O Patti Godwin, Amarillo National Bank, P.O. Box 1, Amarillo, TX 79105 FBO Ware Living Center.
