Donald W. Holt, 95, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 20, 1911, to Herman A. and Fawn M. Bowling Holt in Winthrop, Minn.

He married Veda B. Powell May 9, 1936, in Dodge City. She died July 24, 2006.

He graduated from high school in Garden City and attended Vocational College in Denver.

During World War II, he was an airplane mechanic in La Junta, Colo. After moving to Liberal in 1945, he was a mechanic for John Deere Tractor. In 1945, he and Hersel Hoffman started the H & H Motor Service, which was a Hudson & Rambler dealership. Don retired in 1980. Following retirement, he built set and displays at the Liberal Air Museum and worked during harvest for the Oyler family.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Liberal.

He is survived by one daughter, Kay Lanum and husband, George, Sugarland, Texas; two grandchildren, Wendi Hallmark and Mark Lanum and wife, Amanda; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Lane, Susan, and Jennifer Hallmark; and one sister, Vivian Collister of Michigan.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

* Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Chapel with the Rev. Ken Hathaway presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Miller Mortuary.
