Troy Bumgarner, 77, of Hawthorne Street, Hudson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, June 25, 2010 at Valdese Hospital after a long illness.

He was born August 18, 1932 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late J. Maynard Bumgarner and Verrie Annas Bumgarner. He was also preceeded in death by one brother Truitt Bumgarner, and a sister-in-law, Zelda Kirby Bumgarner.

Mr. Bumgarner was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Alaska, and a member of the Hudson American Legion Post#29. Mr. Bumgarner served as a Hudson Policeman for 7½ years. He served as a volunteer fireman for Sawmills for 5 years, and worked as an automobile mechanic.

Mr. Bumgarner was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Hudson. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church of Granite Falls.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jacqueline Bumgarner (Jackie) of the home. He is also survived by one brother, Thad Bumgarner, and one sister, Mrs. Ray (Jennie)Wilson of Granite Falls. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly as well as a host of friends and neighbors.

The funeral service for Mr. Bumgarner will be 11:00 pm Monday, June 28, 2010 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Perry officiating. Family will receive friends Sunday June 27, 6-8 pm at Mackie-High Funeral Home, Granite Falls. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tim Wilson, Bill Holder, David Bigelow, Jimmy Childers, Bill Chester, Matthew Hines. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Wilson, Rob Wilson, Matt Childers, Larry Hines, John Teague, Mickey Story, and Rick Wyke.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 172 North Main Street, Granite Falls, or to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street N.W. Lenoir, N.C.
