Obituary for Helen Marie Denbrook
Helen Marie Denbrook, 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the Broen Home.

Helen was born on September 7, 1923, to Albert and Pauline (Lehn) Mandelke in Elizabeth. She attended school and grew up in Elizabeth Township. The family moved to Western Township and later East of Fergus Falls, by Broken Down Dam.

On July 12, 1943, she married Alvin Denbrook at Our Lady of Victory Church in Fergus Falls. She began working at Woolworth’s in August of 1942, while her husband served overseas and continued working there throughout her career.

She sang in the St. Elizabeth and Our Lady of Victory choirs. She was a member of 4-H, a life-member of the VFW Auxiliary and the D.A.V. She was a Cub Scout leader and an active member of her Church.

Her interests included crafts, oil painting, drawings, crocheting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; five sisters, Emily (Richard) Earle, Regina (Paul) Hanson, Dorothy (Lloyd) Neubauer, Elizabeth Brendemuhl, and Irene (Wally) Wyffels; two brothers, Edward &, Joseph (Doris) Mandelke; a son-in-law, Tim Van De Streek, and a brother-in-law Roy Neubauer.

Survivors include her children, Joyce (Ted) Anderson, of Brainerd, Gary (Margo) Denbrook, of Underwood, Elaine (Gary) Preston, of Fergus Falls and Sue Van De Streek of Otter Tail; four grandchildren, Nikki (Jason) Morris, Shawn Preston, Michaela (Raymond) Bagley, and Heather Denbrook; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Blake and Levi; a sister, Gertrude Neubauer, of Fargo, ND; a sister-in-law, Alice Mandelke, of Banning, CA.; a brother-in-law, Morton Brendemuhl, of Moorhead, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials preferred to the organization of the donor’s choice.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 with vigil prayers at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls, MN.

Clergy: Fathers Alan Wielinski, Bill Gamber and Deacon Chuck Kampa

Interment: St. Otto’s Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
