Esther Gail Dale Mitchell, 89, of Greensburg, passed away at 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Morning Breeze Nursing Home. She was born April 17, 1927, the daughter of Elda R. and Mary J. (Hunter) Hancock.

She was born in Greensburg and has lived her entire life in Decatur County. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1945 and retired from Bohn Aluminum in 1991 after 19 years of service.

She was a member of Waynesburg Christian Church. She enjoyed walking, camping, playing slot machines and dining out.

She married her first husband, Vanus Paul Dale in Greensburg on Dec. 13, 1945, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1970.

She married her second husband, Richard Leonard Mitchell in Greensburg on March 23, 1993, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2016.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathie (Larry) Romine of Phoenix, Arizona; son, David (Cindy) Dale of Greensburg; step-daughter, Mary Lou Mitchell of Indianapolis; brother, Lewis Hancock of Greensburg;grandchildren, Christy (Terry) DeVries and Lori Romine of Phoenix, Arizona, Mike Dale and Brent Dale of Greensburg, Jordan (Jeanine) Dale of Westport and Jessica (Daron) Scudder of St. Paul; step-grandsons, Chris (Libby) Houpey of Greensburg and Dallas Delahoy of Indianapolis and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Lela Schock, Leva Miller, Martha Rutherford and Anna Clark.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 at the funeral Home with David Burnett and Randy McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
